Codeless Implementations: How we moved from from developer-full to developer-less
Monday, Sep 20, 10:50AM EST
In 2019, around 50% of EveryMundo developer resources were dedicated to customer implementations. With EveryMundo’s plans for growth into new verticals and industries, we needed to transition the majority of implementation resources to product development. When the pandemic hit, this became even more apparent. We needed to optimize our resources to work smarter, not harder.
In July 2020, our CEO, Anton Diego, presented us with a challenge: “Developer-less implementations”. This meant breaking down each step of a complex, multi-step implementation and developing scalable solutions to completely eliminate front-end developer resource requirements in product implementations.
How to maintain a large-scale distributed system from the infrastructure perspective and not go mad
Monday, Sep 20, 10:50AM EST
Today digital services on the internet have played an essential role in people’s lives. Software-driven consumer product development is becoming increasingly complex. The biggest challenge for web-based applications is offering minimal response times, and this is faced by IT departments around the world. Offering high-quality products in less time is a key factor in achieving our mission at Everymundo. For that reason, the adoption of processes and methodologies in IT is fundamental and crucial. At this conference, we wanted to share some facts that we have gone through to avoid the most common problems when we talk about maintaining a large-scale distributed system, such as:
Requires an extensive amount of time to maintain a global infrastructure.
The high costs of paying for the use of services due to extensive workloads.
Staff needed to work on the resources used.
Our focus at Everymundo as a DevOps team has been:
Use of agile methodologies for the collaboration of internal teams.
Adoption and continuous improvement of integration, delivery, and continuous deployment processes.
See and understand the state of our systems in real-time.
And also, introduce yourself with some best practices that we have followed at Everymundo to deliver high-quality products when we talk about the Sofware Development Life Cycle.
Decoupling PHP monolith into AWS lambda functions - Our journey
Tuesday, Sep 21, 10:50AM EST
Solutions to increase performance and reduce server costs: How we migrated components of a monolithic PHP application to AWS lambda functions in NodeJS to serve multiple regions more than 4 million page requests.
When Everymundo hit more than 50 airlines back in 2019, we needed to come up with solutions to better scale our systems, increase performance and reduce server costs. We started doing more background processes so the data was pre-aggregated when requested. We migrated many components of a monolithic PHP application to AWS lambda functions in NodeJS.
In this presentation, we will share our journey to the inclusion of AWS lambdas as part of our technology stack. The examples we bring are real life experiences and are in production systems that serve multiple regions and handle more than 4 million page requests per day.

We will discuss some unanticipated insights, show how airlines can get access to their own data, and how to respond to the data.
Cost Savings with Amazon Kinesis Streams: Maintaining quality services during the pandemic
Wednesday, Sep 22, 10:50AM EST
Amazon Kinesis Streams is a great service that in combination with Lambda functions enables you to build scalable data stream applications fast. But you gotta keep an eye on the costs of it because as it scales the costs increase proportionally.
When the lockdowns due to the pandemic hit, the travel industry was by far one of the most affected ones and consequently, we were affected too. So in order to keep going, we had to find opportunities to reduce costs and the usage of Kinesis with Lambda functions was a good one.
We are going to show you how the service works, what features it provides, the pricing formula, our solution to reduce the costs, the math behind it, and all the trade-offs for this solution.
We’ll also officially opensource a package that allows you to apply the whole solution with minimal code change so you too can start saving without changing your performance or quality.
Reactive WebSockets for Event-Driven Architecture
Thursday, Sep 23, 9:00AM EST
WebSockets is a lightweight and widely adopted client-server communication protocol. We’ll share our architectural solution on how to use WebSockets for an event-driven, production-ready, distributed microservices ecosystem built with Reactive Programming paradigm.
At Everymundo, real time data is at the center of many of our products. Being able to react to this information flow is very important and sometimes even vital.
Airline users access our systems from different devices through multiple sessions, this leads to inconsistencies when one of those sessions modifies the account information. These types of changes require the user to verify it’s credentials to make sure all active sessions are still valid.
The use of OAuth2 to handle the security comes with some caveats, the sessions are stateless and the information is stored in a time-limited token. For this reason, our team had to find a solution to react to this change and trigger a logout, if needed, of all the active user sessions. The usage of WebSockets technology has proven to be beneficial to provide the product and ultimately, the final user, with the latest events and data.
